What You Can Do to Protect Yourself in an Unsafe Place

Today’s generation has produced a lot of innovations in fields like science, technology, entertainment, and many others. Though modernization is seen as advancement, there is also a downside – the negative end of the spectrum. Hackers abound, leaked videos or pictures on the internet are but common nuances nowadays. And in this time and age it is just as easy to feel vulnerable and unsafe, especially if you are living alone or in unfamiliar territory. Here are a few tips to ensure your safety at all times.

 
1. Stay alert.
Whenever you find yourself alone during the dead of the night or in a dark parking, immediately take notice of your surroundings. Note any suspicious characters lurking in the shadows. If in doubt, call for help or make some noise to keep the potential wrongdoer from getting near you.
 
2. Arm yourself.
It can be anything commonly found and easily stored in your purse. Your keys, umbrella, nail file or perfume spray can all be effective against an attacker. Feeling extra bold? Get a pepper spray and learn how to use it for the maximum effect.
 
3. Walk with a group.
Ask a male friend to walk you to your car or even drop you off at your home when it gets too late. Another option is to stay in crowded areas so as not to attract attention to the fact that you are alone and makes for easy prey.
 
4. Head for the police.
Don’t be afraid of going to the police. It is a far better option that dismissing someone as just another person when it turns out to be quite the opposite. Authority figures almost always dispel the urge of bad guys to inflict harm on you.
 
5. Fight, kick, and scream.
This attracts attention to passers-by and most certainly will spook any attacker. Call out or shout at the top of your lungs and ask for help. Another effective action: run as fast as you can in the opposite direction of where your attacker came from and call for help. Or if you really want to be able to defend yourself, take up self-defense classes.
 
Remember these are just tips that you can practice. Keep your phone with you at all times, charged and ready to be used at the slightest suspicion.
