Malaysian culture:

The Malaysian culture is a combination of different culture life the Malay culture, the Chinese culture, Indians culture, a Eurasian culture together with some indigenous groups’ cultures that is located in the peninsula and north of Borneo. In the emergent national culture, a significant distinction is between Malay and Non-Malay that is denoted by two groups. The country’s politics is represented by the Malaysian elite and the principally Chinese’s middle class.

The Chinese affluent lifestyle gives Malaysia a shift to the consumer society.

Family life

The Family life in Malaysia is purely Asian with lots of characteristic Asian traditions and customs. Most of the Malaysian family life is expat family living. The people are voluntarily absent from the country or home.

The family living in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur (KL) is somewhat high when come to other suburban area. The country has an excellent health care system, good international schools, excellent hospitals; superb highways.KL is a high-tech sophisticated infrastructural city. The Satellite TVs and mobile phones are the most common features found among the Malaysian people.

The Malaysian people’s life also revolves around customary celebrations of its varied population. Some of the main Muslim holidays are the Hari Raya Puasa or the “Holiday of Fasting” Id al-Fitr(Aidilfitri) to rejoice the Ramadan’s fasting month and the Holiday of pilgrimage called the Hari Raya Haji or Id-al-Adha(Aidiladha) to rejoice the conclusion of pilgrim season to Mecca. On the other hand the Buddhist celebrates the festival of “Wesak Day” to honour Buddha’s life on Hari Wesak.The Chinese New year is celebrated by the Chinese. The Hindu celebrates the festival of Lights called Deepavali. .

Food

The diversity of Malaysia has sanctified the country with many exotic multi cuisines from various parts of the world. The rudiments of Malay, Indian and Chinese cooking are together distinctive and combined. The most common food in the cuisine is Rice and noodles. The spicy dishes are also some of the favorite dishes. Malaysia has abundant growth of tropical fruits. The durian is most favorite tropical fruit. It is identified by its spiked shells and fermented flesh. The locals are separated from the foreigners by the pungent aroma of the Durian.

Most of the Malaysians eat meat that is rich in fat content. Now days a lot of small hawker stalls have mushroomed in urban area offering round the clock food.These food stalls facilitate the Malaysians to often take food outside their homes. The Malaysians Muslims are not allowed to take pork where as the pork is the faourite dish among the Chinese population.The Hindus do not eat beef. Likewise the Buddhists are strictly vegetarian. The consumption of Alcohol separates the Muslims from Non-Muslims. 

Dress

The Malay dress

The Malaysian word for dress is “Baju”. Because Malaysian culture consits of three major culture-Malay, Chinese and Indian culture, each has is own customs, traditions, way of dress wear outfits.

“Baja mealyu” is the traditional Malayan attire. That is worn over the trousers and is normally accompanied by a ”Sampin” The sampan is a Sarong that is draped about a man’s hips. Also it will come with a cap or songkok on their head. The Malaysian men’s traditional clothing comprises of silk or cotton shirt along with a scarf identical cloth piece that is fixed around his waist.

The Baju kurung is a knee length blouse that is worn over the skirt by Malay woman.Previous to the broad embrace of Islam, the Malay woman use to wear Kemban”

The Chinese Dress

The everyday clothing worn but the Chinese men in Malaysia is a short sleeved shirt that is worn over the trousers. They are light weight trousers and sandals are worn for comfort.
 
Cheongsam is a single piece dress with a high collar worn by the Chinese women. The dress is diagonally closed with toggles or small clips (fabric clasps).

This dress is famous during the time of Chinese New Year and other official meetings.

Indian Dress

The Indian woman in Malaysia wears saris. It is 5 to 6 yards measuring cloth which is normally worn along with a shaded petticoat. The sari is draped over the body and covers the shoulder the embroidery ends hang out.

The Indian men during formal gatherings wear ‘Kurtha’. It is a shirt that is Knee length and is normally of linen or cotton.  The other r clothes worn by the Indian men are Dhoti, Lungi, Pyjamas, and Kurtha- Pyjajma.

Sports

The sport in Malaysia has been a wide spread local activity that is prformed in all universities.  The Universities arrange the annual sports recreational activities. Most of the Malaysian people have their own traditional sports which had been passed on them by the ancestors for generations.


Badminton, field hockey, bowling squash and football are some of the popular sports in Malaysia. Another sportes that is gaining popularity is Golf.
