The Metro center is a shopping center situated at Gateshead adjacent to the River Tyne .The shopping mall was opened in various phases. The primary stage was inaugurated on 28th April 1986.The metro center is spread on a retail floor area of 2,089,000 square feet (194,100 m2) and it houses more than 340 shops. Based on the gross floor area, the Metro center is regarded as the largest shopping center in the UK.

Five major malls known as green, red, yellow, blue, and central. The shopping areas here are themed under different names such as the forum (previously called s the Roman Forum), the Village (former name Antiques village) and the Studio (formerly called as the Mediterranean village). Nearly fifty cafes and restaurants are present in the Metro center.

Marks and Spencer (also called as M&S), a well-known British retail stores that has its head quarters at the City of Westminster.
