The Church of Nativity, Bethlehem
Once you have landed here, you will come to know that Joseph took up shelter in a particular cave adjacent to the village, whilst they were present, Mary fetched forth the Christ and positioned Him in a manger, and at this juncture, the Magi of Arabia saw Him (chapter LXXVIII).
You will find the building, basically a mixture of 2 churches, with a vault below, the Grotto of the Nativity, where Jesus was believed to be born. A silver star below the altar in the Altar in the Grotto of nativity denotes the spot, which is considered as Jesus’s birthplace.
In the church compound, you will come across several chapels, which comprises of Saint Joseph chapel honoring the appearance of angel to Joseph.
In front of the church you will find a big patio known as the Manger square. It is a place where crowds flock on the eve of Christmas to chant Christmas carol in expectation of the midnight services.
