The kingdom of Thailand was previously called as Siam. It is a nation that is situated in the south eastern part of Asia and the Indochina peninsula. Laos and Burma borders Thailand on the north side, while Laos and Cambodia border the country on the east side. Likewise the Malaysia and the gulf of Thailand border it on the south side. The Andaman Sea and the southern fringes of Burma border Thailand on the eastern side.


Thailand ranks as the fifty first biggest nations on the basis of land area. It is slightly bigger than Spain and little bit small when compared to Yemen. The country has a population of 64 million citizens. It occupies the 21st slot as the thickly populated country in the universe.


In between the year 1985 to 1995, Thailand witnesses a swift growth in economy. Since the country boasts of a number of renowned tourist spots like Pattaya, Bangkok, Ayutthaya, Krabi, Phuket, Ko Samui, and Chiang Mai, it is regarded recently as an industrialized nation with tourism.

History

About nearly 40,000 years ago, right from the Paleolithic period, Thailand was occupied by inhabitants. Just like the other areas of the South east Asia, Thailand was greatly influenced be the religion and civilization of India commencing from the Kingdom of Funan approximately the first century Christian era.


In the thirteenth century, subsequent to the downfall of the khymer kingdom, a number of states like the kingdoms of Khmer, Mon, Tai, and Malay flourished.


The Sukhothai kingdom founded in 1238 is considered as the initial Siamese or Thai state. It is a Buddhist kingdom. Subsequent to the Khmer kingdom’s decline, on the ascension were the empires like the Lan Xang (presently called as Laos), Lanna and Sukhothai. But after the passing of a century, the kingdom of Ayutthaya outshined the authority of Sukhothai. The new kingdom of Ayutthaya kingdoms was founded in the in the middle part of the fourteenth century in the Menam region, in the lower part of the Chao Phraya River.


The civilians and military officials of the Khana Ratsadon group conducted a bloodless rebellion that enabled the transfer of power, by which the King Prajadhipok was compelled to award the initial constitution to the Siamese people, thereby putting an end to the absolute kingdom.


In the Second World War, Thailand was demanded by Japan to make their troops to traverse through Thailand. The Japanese invaded Thailand and made the Thai army to work for them for 6 to 8 hours until an armistice was ordered by Plaek Pibulsonggram.


Under a constitutional monarchy structure, the Thailand politics is presently carried out, in which the head of the government is the Prime Minister and the heads of the state is the hereditary monarch.
