South Africa Education System

Education in South Africa is a three tier pattern comprising of primary school, secondary school and tertiary school. The tertiary education will be in the shape of universities of technology and academic universities.

In the year 2010, it has some 48,000 schools, 12.3 students and 386,000 teachers, .i.e.; on average each school has some 8 teachers. Also there are 390 special needs schools and some 1000 registered private schools. Grade 1 to 7 forms the primary school, Grade 8 to 12 forms the secondary school. Sometimes, the grade is extended to 0 to 13, it’s up to the school’ discretion.


In recent times, immense progresses have been with introduction to the disabled schools. For instance the associations like the Khanya have given computers of students of state schools.

The concept of both public and private schools prevails in South Africa. Though the school differs in quality of education, size, character and financial advantages, both the schools seems to be shows potential.

Pre colonial education

Even before the arrival of the Europeans various African societies made stressed on traditional pattern of education. Objectives that focus on admission and development

The children should be compulsorily got enrolled in school upto the age of 15.

Enhance the children access to eminent early childhood Development (ECD)

To develop the grade promotion of learners throughout from Grade 1 to 9 stages of school.

School funding

To make sure that the schools are funded at least at the minimum per students’ level that is determined nationally. Also ensure that the funds are used transparently and efficiently.
