M.L.Sultan Technikon
Part time classes were conducted until the year 1946, when the govt affirmed the college as an approved organization for higher education as per the 1923 higher education act. A soldier turned educationist Major.H.Nattrass became the first principal in the year 1947.
The M.L. Sultan College assumed the status of technikon on May 1979. M.L.Sultan Technikon became a full-fledged tertiary institute comprising nine colleges. After five years, these schools were modernized into four faculties such as Arts, Science and Commerce, Engineering and the Built Environment,
In the year the 1995, the student enrollment elevated to a record high of 12,000 and nearly 40% of the students were non-white.
Later in the year 2002 ML Sultan Technikon got merged along with Technikon Natal to form the Durban University of Technology.
