Kuwait Tamil Islamic Committee (K-Tic) arranged "Trip to Failaka"

Kuwait Tamil Islamic Committee (K-Tic) carried out its picnic for its members and their families on Thursday 18th November 2010.

It is a maiden picnic for K-Tic and its of its first kind to visit “Failaka Island”. The day started with fun-filled voyage on the ferry at 9:00AM from Salmiya (Ras Al Ard).

Moulavee Ash-Shaikh M.S. Mohammed Meera Shah Fazil Baqaavee (President) and Al-Haaj A. Abdul Gafoor (Secretary, Media Wing) attended to give a send-off for the trip to Failaka. About 12 families and some bachelors explored Failaka.

The cruise was entertaining, kids and children enjoyed it. The weather was very pleasant and reached the port of Failaka around 11AM.

Failaka - Out of an archipelago of nine islands, Failaka is Kuwait 's only inhabited one. It is located 20 kilometers off Kuwait City 's coast. Failaka is a bastion of Kuwait 's rich heritage. Several historic and archaeological sites can be found at different locations. In the 3rd century BC, the Greeks referred to the island as Icaria . This was when Alexander the Great conquered the region. Traces of Greek mythology amalgamated with the local culture. Historical records show that the island was populated during the seventh and eighth century AD.

The beach and zoo were also other spots were the families enjoyed. The amiable weather passed by walking around the island and having awareness with Islamic Quiz program. The waiting time at the Failaka port was filled with the amazing gymnastic art of talented intrepid group of youngsters.

This historical trip to Failaka island evoked the people lived in those days, the changes that happened during yesteryears. The pleasant trip arrived back at Salmiya at about 8PM with evening sea breezes.
