If your car is impounded for emitting too much of carbonic gas, etc, then you need to follow the below mentioned procedure for getting your car released.

What the traffic dept personnel will do?

When your vehicle is impounded, the traffic police will ask you to handover the license and will ask you to follow their car

Upon arrival at the traffic dept office you will be asked to hand over your car keys and they will issue a yellow traffic paper and ask you to go to your home or workplace

You need to wait for fine that comes to your computer in about 5 to 7 days.

You need to periodically check your computer

The traffic fine procedures are normally followed during the evening time

Most of the time expatriates are not entertained during the morning time

Atleast a minium of 10 days have to pass, then only you can approach the traffic department to release your impounded car.

Documents required for releasing your impounded car

Photocopy of your civil id

The yellow traffic fine paper

Your original civi id which you need to keep in your possession at all times.

At the Mubarak Al Kabeer traffic department, you need to take from the department head endorsement on your yellow traffic fine sheet (This procedure you need to do when your fine does not come via online)

If your fine comes directly through online you can pay directy at the counter. At the counter you will provided the fine receipt along with another additional paper for checking your vehicle’s smoke. You need to take one copy of that particular paper and go the 2nd counter there that particular paper will be filled returned back to you.

Then you need to visit the Asma Shuwaikh traffic department. Before going to this place you need to take a photocopy of the paper provided by the Mubarak Al Kabeer traffic department ( one page is enough ). The photo copy service is obtainable at the Asma Shuwaikh traffic department.

At the Asma Shuwaikh traffic department, the papers will be registered and returned back to you.

Go back to the Mubarak Al Kabeer traffic department, take the approval from the traffic department head and visit the same 2nd counter where they previously provided the paper. Once registering they will provide all your papers in addition they will provide another for getting your car released from the impounded car compound.

Prior to going there, you need to take photocopies of all the papers. At the counter you need to give both the sets. For their purpose they will keep one set of copy while another set of copies will returned back to you. You need to again an endorsement from the traffic head present there.

After getting his endorsement come back to the same counter where you need to pay the demurrage charges which is 1 KD for each day. The cashier at the counter will offer you two copies one for releasing your car and the other to be keep it in your possession. In addition you will be offered the original documents along with the receipt for releasing your car. You will be having nine days duration for repairing your car and attending a smoke check

You need to take your vehicle to Shuwaikh Asma for smoke check; the relevant person will check your car, once satisfied he will ask you to take the car.
