SR150 fine for traffic obstruction
By SULTAN AL-TAMIMI | ARAB NEWS

JEDDAH: A fine of SR150 will be imposed on those who obstruct traffic officers dealing with an accident.

“People tend to crowd around and impede the arrival of an ambulance or traffic officers to the accident scene. This can sometimes lead to the death of a person who needs treatment. This violation will also include motorists that add to traffic jams in the vicinity, especially when they park their vehicle in an inappropriate manner,” said head of Jeddah’s traffic police Col. Mohammed Al-Qahtani.

Al-Qahtani’s statement comes amidst many complaints about how swarms of people tend to crowd around roads when a road accident occurs.

The SR150 could be doubled if the offense warrants it, Al-Qahtani said. If a person is found guilty his vehicle might be impounded. This also applies to those who stop their vehicles to help an accident victim.

Meanwhile, the 26th GCC Traffic Week campaign finished in Jeddah, with many government agencies and security personnel participating. The campaign is considered necessary in terms of raising awareness among youths and their parents about the dangers that can lead to road accidents and to stress the importance of respecting traffic laws.

“There was a positive reaction and participation during the week. There were many exhibits and awareness material provided to visitors about avoiding car accidents and the need to comply with speed laws and traffic regulations,” Al-Qahtani said.
