King: Citizens, expatriates liable to protect country

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday, thanked the Interior Ministry for its efforts in “detecting and thwarting a number of terrorist plots” aimed at the country’s youth and other targets across the country.
Such plots are set up by terrorist organizations abroad to undermine the Kingdom and its policies, which are based on the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him), said Adel Al-Toraifi, minister of culture and information, after the meeting.
He said King Salman has stressed that citizens and expatriates are responsible for protecting the country, and should report any attempts threatening its security.
He said the ministers also thanked the king for supporting the Yemeni people, including his directive for the Interior Ministry to help the country’s workers correct their status in the Kingdom.
The Cabinet also welcomed the appointment of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania as the new envoy of the secretary-general of the United Nations to Yemen, said Al-Toraifi.
The ministers also hailed the results of the consultative meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministers of interior, which approved a plan of action to tackle terrorism and extremism, including blocking sources of funding for these groups.
The ministers welcomed the heads of the Gulf Cooperation Council who are attending the 15th Annual Consultative meeting on Tuesday in Riyadh, said Al-Toraifi.
The Cabinet also reviewed and welcomed the findings of several scientific and economic activities and forums held during the week, including the International Experts Workshop on Carbon Management and its Implications, the First Global Methane Initiative Workshop and Exhibition held in Khobar, and the Kingdom’s participation in the Beijing Energy Club held in China.
