9,000 job seekers turn up at Jubail career fair

More than 9,000 job seekers turned up recently at the 13th Jubail Career Day organized by the Royal Commission in Jubail (RCJ), which saw the participation of 62 firms and government institutions.
However, several applicants contacted Arab News and accused some companies of not offering a wide range of jobs. Sami Abdullah, an applicant, said: “I think some companies are just keen to participate in career fairs to convince the community that they are applying Saudization, but actually require people who have rare qualifications.”
A top RCJ official said that the commission’s role is to organize the event and it does not interfere in how companies recruit, although the aim is to offer young people employment and training opportunities.
Husain Abu Sareer, director of industrial relations at Jubail Industrial College, said: “The commission has put in a great deal of effort to have a large number of companies and entities at the event, to provide as many jobs as possible and enable young people to find work commensurate with their ambitions.”
Hamad bin Hareth, an applicant, lauded the organizers for setting up the event. “It allows interested applicants to find suitable jobs in the private sector.” Other applicants expressed surprise that companies wanted them to apply for jobs on their websites, and questioned why they had to attend the event.
Some could not be offered jobs or training in the petroleum industry because they had arts and humanities qualifications. Sultan Abdulaziz said: “Many college graduates have no place in the labor market, because their specialties are not required nowadays at private companies.”
Representatives of companies said they wanted to find suitable jobs for citizens in the industrial city of Jubail. They said graduates of the RCJ’s colleges and institutes are highly qualified.
Alsalam Aircraft Company offered more than 400 jobs and conducted 10 interviews throughout the exhibition. Chemanol Company received more than 500 applications, while ALDAR Consulting Engineers Co. conducted immediate interviews for more than 30 job seekers. More than 200 young people applied for jobs at Sahara Petrochemicals Company.
Sipchem representative, Sulaiman Al-Moshaiti, said: “The company conducted more than 30 personal interviews at the event and is keen to recruit graduates of Jubail Industrial College.
A representative of Dow Chemical Company said: “The main objective of the company is to recruit over 50 graduates of Jubail Industrial College.”
Hussein Al-Qahtani, a graduate of Jubail Industrial College, said: “I was surprised by the interest shown by companies in graduates of Jubail Industrial College and the competition to offer attractive jobs.” Another graduate said several companies interviewed him.
