Woman jumps off Mumbai building with son, four held (Lead)

Mumbai, April 16 (IANS) A 34-year-old woman flung her five-year-old son and then jumped off the seventh floor of a building in suburban Dahisar here Saturday, police said. Four members of her family have been arrested.

 
 Dipti Chauhan, a housewife, Saturday afternoon flung her son Siddhesh (aka Siddhu) and then jumped off the seventh floor of the Alakhnanda building located in suburban Dahisar. They were both rushed to the hospital, but were declared dead on admission.
 
 "We have arrested Dipti Chauhan's husband Nilesh, father-in-law, brother-in-law Bharat and sister-in-law Sarla for harassment and abetment of suicide," a police official told reporters. The name of the father-in-law was not confirmed by the police.
 
 Police are questioning the arrested and are yet to ascertain the  reason behind the suicide. The accused will be presented in a  court Sunday.
 
 Police said Dipti's family has filed a complaint claiming that she was being harassed by her in-laws and that they were worried about her safety.
 
 Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spotted the bodies of the mother and the son said the son had a black cloth tied on his eyes.
 
 This is the second incident of suicide in the last two months. On March 8, Nidhi Gupta, 30, threw her two children from the 19th floor of a building in suburban Malad and then jumped herself.
 
 Police March 12 booked her in-laws for harassment, torture and abetting suicide.
