We don't support frequent fuel hikes: Mamata
Kolkata, June 24 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a major ally of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Friday said she does not support frequent fuel price-hikes as they put immense pressure on the common people of the country.
“I have heard rumours that there can be price rise. We don’t support this frequent price rise of fuels. The people face lot of problems due to this price rise of fuels. We have already conveyed our opinion at appropriate place,” the Trinamool Congress chief told mediapersons here.
“We don’t support this. The (central) government may have some decisions to take. But we don’t support this. This is time of floods, the people are facing problems. So if the prices of fuel are increased frequently, it creates lot of problem," she said.
The government late Friday announced a hike in the price of diesel by Rs.3 per litre, kerosene by Rs.2 a litre and Rs.50 per cylinder in LPG.
