Tuskers trample couple to death in Bengal
Siliguri, July 11 (IANS) Elephants trampled to death a married couple in their sleep and damaged their mud house in West Bengal's Darjeeling district early Monday, officials said.
The incident occurred at Jamidarguri village in Siliguri sub-division around 1 a.m., when the herd of four-five elephants raided the area.
"Madan Chettri, 65, and his wife Parbati, 40, were sleeping when four-five elephants attacked their house. Both died on the spot," Divisional forest Officer (Kurseyong) Y.T. Aden told IANS.
He said a bigger group of over 100 jumbos has been wandering around the India-Nepal border area of Kurseong sub-division over the last fortnight.
