TRS warns PM on Telangana
Hyderabad, June 29 (IANS) Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao Wednesday warned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that "Telangana will burn" if he fails to implement his promise of carving out a separate Telangana state.
The Mahabubnagar MP said people of Telangana will not tolerate it if the prime minister further delays a decision on the issue.
"I would like to humbly submit to the prime minister that it is you who made the promise on Dec 9, 2009. If you do any hera pheri, Telangana will not tolerate you. You will see a burning Telangana. The hearts of Telangana people will burn and you alone will be responsible for what happens," he said.
Following an 11-day fast by KCR and massive protests in the region, the central government Dec 9, 2009 had announced that the process for formation of a separate Telangana state will be initiated.
KCR, as the TRS chief is popularly known, gave the warning while addressing a condolence meeting here for Telangana ideologue K. Jayashnakar, who died recently.
The TRS leader's warning came as the party, along with other Telangana groups, are gearing up to intensify the movement for a separate state.
Regarding reports that the central government planned to set up a regional development council for Telangana instead of granting separate statehood, he said the people will throw the Congress party into the Bay of Bengal if that happens.
"We are not afraid of anybody. At the most, they can put me and Kodanadaram (convenor of Telangana Joint Action Committee) in jail for six months, but they can't jail four crore people of the region," he said.
