Profile
The Toronto zoo is the biggest zoo in the county of Canada. It is spread on an area of 710 acres (287 hectares). The zoo is segregated into seven different geographic regions such as Americas, Tundra Trek, Indo-Malaya, Africa, Eurasia, Australasia, and the Canadian area. Presently the zoo shelters more than 16,000 animals denoting more than 491 species.
Indo –Malaya
Two pavilions are present in this area and it showcases the animals and plants from south eastern and Southern Asia. Some of the animals you will find in this area are Malayan tapirs, Indian rhinos, orangutans, lion-tailed macaques, spiny turtles, Mandarin Ducks, unusual Sumatran tigers, and different freshwater fish. The Malayan pavilion shelters the whistling ducks, clouded leopards, butterflies, and red-tailed green rat snakes. In the year 2003, zoo had three new born, three Sumerian tigers born and was named as “Kali” and “Indah” in Indonesian language.
Africa
Some of the animals you will find in this area are zebras, lions, greater kudus, sable antelopes, olive baboons, elephants, white rhinos, hyenas, hippopotamuses, and Masai giraffe.
Canadian domain
Elk, moose, bison, lynx, cougar, and grizzly bear are the inhabitants of this area
Americas
This region boasts of having both the North and South American animals and also the different species of monkeys. The place will be a real treat for your eyes; you will witness the various species of reptiles, amphibians, insects and fish. Yu can also visit the Mayan temple ruins, where you will find the peculiar spider monkeys, jaguars, and flamingos.
Australasia
You will be greeted by a variety of Australian reptiles, wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, emus, red-tailed black cockatoos, kookaburras, Komodo dragons and Matschie's tree kangaroos. A Great Barrier Reef showcases living organisms like the sea horse, jelly fish tank, a live coral fish and bamboo sharks. Apart from this the exhibit also has a community tank that is 23 ft (7 m) in length.
Eurasia
This is the most ancient part of the zoo. You will come face to face with animals like the snow leopards, Siberian tigers, Przewalski's wild horses, Barbary apes, red pandas, and Bactrian camels.
Tundra trek
You will find the arctic animals like the polar bears, reindeer, snow geese, arctic foxes, snowy owls, and arctic wolves as residents in this area.
Timing
During the spring season the zoo is opened from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
During the summer season, it is opened to the public from 9.30 am to 7.30pm.
Admission fees
For adults in the age group of 13 to 64 years, the admission fees is $21.00
For seniors, who are above 65 years, the fees is $15.00
For kids in the age group of 3 to 12, the ticket is $13.00
For kids below the age of three, it is free admission.
