Three company officials booked for Thane gas leak
Thane (Maharashtra), Sep 21 (IANS) Cases were filed against three officials of a pharmaceutical plant here Wednesday in the toxic gas leak that killed four workers, police said.
"We have booked three officials - the chief manager, production manager and plant supervisor - of the company, Sequent Scientific Ltd, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance as well as machinery," an officials of the Boisar Police Station told IANS.
“We are interrogating them and investigating the matter,” he added.
Four people choked to death after they inhaled a toxic gas in a pharmaceutical plant in this Maharashtra district Tuesday, police said adding that five people were injured.
The accident happened in the plant around 7.30 p.m. when a pipe burst caused leakage of hydrogen sulphide gas, local police officials said.
While four people who inhaled the gas died shortly thereafter, at least five others were rushed to the local civil hospital.
While two continue to remain critical, the other three are out of danger.
The victims have been identified as Shivkant Tiwari, Binoo Sinh, Naresh Yadav and Sarvesh Kumar.
The plant is located in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's industrial area of Boisar, around 100 km north of Mumbai.
