TDP Telangana legislators ready to quit again
Hyderabad, Sep 22 (IANS) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) legislators from Telangana region Thursday said they were ready to resign Sep 28 for a separate state and asked their counterparts from the ruling Congress party to also quit.
"We are all ready to submit our resignations on Sep 28 but the Congress leaders should also resign," TDP Telangana Forum Convenor E. Dayakar Rao told reporters.
Rao asked Congress leaders from Telangana to mount pressure on their central leadership to immediately initiate the process for formation of the separate state.
Telangana state can be achieved only by creating a constitutional crisis, he added.
Rao also declared full support to the ongoing 'people's strike' in Telangana to achieve separate statehood for the region.
Over 100 legislators from Telangana including all 36 of TDP and 47 of Congress had submitted their resignations in July.
Assembly Speaker N. Manohar, however, rejected all the resignations saying the legislators took the decision in an emotionally charged atmosphere.
While all 11 legislators of Telangana Rashtra Samithi and four TDP rebels submitted their resignations again to the speaker last month, leaders from Congress party said they would take a "tough decision" by month-end. TDP leaders wanted their Congress counterparts to take the first step.
