Tamil Nadu to recruit medical staff to overcome shortage
Chennai, Sep 10 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Saturday announced that the state government will set up a Medical Services Recruitment Board (MSRB) to address the huge shortage of doctors and paramedical staff for government hospitals.
Jayalalithaa told the state assembly that around 15,600 of the 91,600 posts in the health department were lying vacant. She attributed the large number of vacancies to the absence of a system for assessing manpower needs and felt that MSRB would solve the problem.
She said the board would initially appoint temporary staff and, after the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission rules were amended, permanent staff could be recruited.
