Chennai, Sep 1 (IANS) The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi as it is known in Tamil Nadu, was celebrated across the state Thursday with people thronging temples.


Special prayers were offered by devotees to Lord Ganesh and homes wore a festive look.

People made 'kozhakattai', a rice flour and jaggery dumpling -- a sweet said to be a favourite of the elephant-headed Hindu god.

Roadside vendors sold Vinayaka or Ganesh idols.
