Supreme Court grants bail to Binayak's associate
New Delhi, May 31 (IANS) The Supreme Court Tuesday granted bail to Pijush Guha, who was convicted along with human rights activist and doctor Binayak Sen on charges of sedition for supporting the activities of Maoists in Chhattisgarh.
The apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice C.K. Prasad, while granting bail to Guha, noted that the co-accused in the case, Binayak Sen, has already been granted bail by this court.
The court said the bail will be subject to the satisfaction of the trial court and on the furnishing of two securities of Rs.1 lakh each.
It said that mere possession of printed material attributed to the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), praising their violent acts against security forces, was no ground for holding a man guilty of sedition.
Speaking for the bench, Justice Prasad said they too keep receiving a lot of newspapers which contain many things which they don't even know.
