Stalin's election challenged in court

Chennai, June 27 (IANS) AIADMK party leader Saidai Duraisamy Monday filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to declare null and void the election of his rival and DMK party leader M.K. Stalin from Kolathur constituency in the April 13 Tamil Nadu assembly polls.

Stalin was declared elected with a margin of 2,000 votes.

Duraisamy alleged that Stalin won the elections due to electoral malpractices like distribution of money to voters and violating the election commission's guidelines.

In support of his contention, Duraisamy also submitted "video evidence".

Counting of votes May 13 saw a close fight between Stalin and Duraisamy. The AIADMK had complained that the counting was not done in accordance with the norms.

At one stage the counting was also stopped. The results were finally declared late in the night.
