Srinagar, Sep 15 (IANS) Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Abdullah Uni, shot dead by security forces two days back, was not given an offer to surrender, the Indian Army said Thursday. It asserted no foreign guerrilla would be offered an option to surrender during gunfights.


Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of an interaction with the civilians in north Kashmir, Srinagar-based 15 Corps commander, Lt. Gen. S.A. Hasnain said: “No surrender offer was made to LeT commander who was killed in an encounter two days back."

“The army does not offer surrender to foreign militants during encounters,” he said.

Lt. Gen. Hasnain, the senior most army officer in the valley, said 35 cadres of the LeT had been killed and the LeT was likely to send reinforcements from across the border to strengthen its cadres here.

"400 militants are waiting to infiltrate into the valley from across the line of control (LOC)," he said.

Hasnain also disclosed that around 500 militants, who had gone across the LOC during early 1990s for arms training, are "languishing in Pakistan jails".
