Kochi, June 25 (IANS) Former president of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) Sainulabudeen was nabbed soon after his arrival at the Kochi international airport here Saturday morning, police sources said.

 
 Sainulabudeen was taken into custody by a team of the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad as soon as he arrived here from Dubai.
 
 He holds a passport issued from Madhya Pradesh, even though he possibly hails from Andhra Pradesh.
 
 He has been taken into custody to probe a few bomb blasts that took place in Madhya Pradesh, police said.
 
 SIMI is an Islamic student organisation that was formed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, in April 1977. SIMI aims to "liberate" India from Western materialistic cultural influences and to encourage the Muslim society to follow the Muslim code of conduct.
 
 SIMI was first banned in 2002 by the then National Democratic Alliance government but in August 2008, a special tribunal lifted the ban.
 
 The apex court, in August 2008, reinstated the ban.
