RSS chief requests Ramdev to end fast

New Delhi, June 11 (IANS) The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Saturday requested yoga guru Ramdev to end his fast against corruption as his health was deteriorating.

"I prayerfully appeal to Baba Ramdev to call off his fast soon and rejoin the movement for national regeneration," RSS  supremo  Mohan Bhagwat said in a statement.

Bhagwat said it was not his appeal but the hope of millions of countrymen that Baba Ramdev would respond positively to their sentiments and call off his fast.

He also stated that the news of Ramdev's deteriorating health and hospitalisation has caused great concern among people.

"People of the country are greatly beholden to Baba for his relentless campaign against corruption and black money that has awakened and inspired millions of citizens and stirred up their innate patriotism," Bhagwat added.

Meanwhile, doctors attending to Ramdev said his health was stable but he continues to be in hospital as he is feeling weak.

"The yoga guru has not taken any food orally so far. He is being given a drip of saline, glucose and vitamins," Deepak Goyal of Jolly Grant Hospital in Derhradun where Ramdev has been admitted told reporters.

On June 4 night, Delhi Police cracked down on Ramdev and his supporters, forcibly evicting them from the Ramlila Ground. The police refused him permission for the protest fast, and flew him to Dehradun, from where he went back to his ashram at Haridwar.
