Rs.3,500 cr liabilities forced on Bengal: Mitra
Kolkata, May 31 (IANS) Charging the Left Front government with mismanaging the state treasury, West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra Tuesday said Rs.3,500 crore of accumulated liabilities had been thrust upon the new Trinamool-led government.
“About Rs.35,00 crore of accumulated liabilities has been forced upon the government by the previous administration... I am showing the figures,” Mitra told reporters here.
“Revenue receipt of the state is Rs.47,572 crore while revenue expenditure stood at Rs.64,014 crore. No state in the country has this kind of huge revenue deficit,” he said.
He alleged that due to this huge revenue deficit, there was an embargo on bill payments.
“There are a huge numbers of unpaid bills. Works have been completed but payment of bills were not made,” he said.
Mitra said the payments of bills would start Wednesday.
