Chennai, July 10 (IANS) A 50-year-old retired army officer has been arrested for shooting dead 13-year-old K. Dilshan, who strayed into a military residential campus here, police said.


Lt. Col. (retd) K. Ramaraj had shot Dilshan from the balcony of his residence July 3 as he was irritated with the boy's trespassing into the campus, police said.

"The Tamil Nadu Police is proud to say that a breakthrough has been achieved in the case with arrest of Ramaraj," Assistant Director General of Police R. Sekar told reporters.

"The initial suspicion was on somebody else. But the CB-CID (Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department) team ruled out that person and zeroed on Ramaraj," Sekar said.
