Re-polling ends in Tamil Nadu
Chennai, April 16 (IANS) Re-poll in eight polling stations in six assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu ended 5 p.m. Saturday with an average voter turnout of 81.3 percent, an official said.
The Election Commission ordered the re-poll in Neyveli in Cuddalore district, Killiyoor in Kanyakumari district, Thiruvidaimarudur in Thanjavur district, Arni in Thiruvannamalai district, Sankarankoil in Tirunelveli district, and Bodinaicknaur in Theni district citing damage to voting machine, boycott by villagers, and defective display of votes.
In a statement here, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said of the 7,401 voters registered under the eight polling booths, 6,018 voters cast their votes giving an average voting percentage of 81.3 percent.
Polling to elect 234 members to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly was held Wednesday and recorded around 78 percent turnout. The results will be declared May 13 after counting of votes.
