Punjabi singer sent to judicial custody
New Delhi, July 23 (IANS) Punjabi pop singer Sukhwinder Mann, arrested earlier this month in a case of fake visas, is in judicial custody, Delhi Police said Saturday.
The assistant regional security officer of the US embassy lodged a police complaint against Mann, a police officer told IANS.
"We arrested him July 8. He is in judicial custody now," he added.
According to the officer, Mann helped a woman, Anita, obtain a US visa on fake documents in 2008.
The woman again approached the US embassy for a visa with her two children.
When the embassy scanned her records, it found she had formerly obtained a visa showing herself as Mann's wife.
"US embassy officials complained to police after they found that this time Anita showed herself as the wife of a Pawant Kumar," the officer said.
When Anita was questioned by embassy officials, she broke down. "She was arrested and sent to jail," he added.
