Chandigarh, July 5 (IANS) The Punjab government has decided to conduct a statewide survey to identify villages affected by the problem of uranium content in water, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said Tuesday.

 
 Talking to reporters at a meeting in Rajeana village in Moga district, Badal said the water supply and sanitation department was engaging the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre to identify an agency to conduct the survey.
 
 He said the Punjab government was installing reverse osmosis (RO) systems in all affected villages to provide potable water to residents.
 
 He said 100 RO systems had already been installed in Moga district and another 2,600 RO systems would be operational by the end of September.
 
 Several parts of Punjab have reported growing incidence of cancer, especially in villages, owing to uranium content found in water.
 
 The worst area affected by cancer is in south Punjab, including Bathinda district.
