Priest held for raping schoolgirl
New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) A 56-year-old temple priest has been arrested from Bihar's Darbhanga district for raping a minor school girl in the national capital, police said Thursday.
"Sarv Narayan Jha, a resident of Nand Nagri area of east Delhi and married with six children, has been arrested in Darbhanga Wednesday for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl here," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain.
Police registered a rape case May 10 after medical examination of the victim confirmed rape. However, Jha fled before he could be arrested.
Jha has been a priest at a temple at Seemapuri area for 25 years and was frequent visitors to the houses of residents for religious rituals.
"He was known to the family of victim and was a regular visitor there for last 15 years. About 20 days ago he found the school girl alone in the house and raped her while threatening her of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone," said Jain.
Police said that the victim remained silent. However, she complained of stomach ache on May 9, and was taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. During the examination, the doctor found about the rape.
"Thereafter, the girl confided about the incident to her mother who reported the matter to us," said Jain.
