Kolkata, May 10 (IANS) At least 83.48 percent voting was recorded in 14 constituencies that went to the polls Tuesday in the sixth and the last round of the West Bengal assembly elections, an Election Commission (EC) official said.

 
 "The percentage is likely to increase as people are in queues at several booths," the official said. The polling started at 7 a.m. and ended at 3 p.m.
 
 Polling was being held amid tight security in 14 constituencies of three districts - seven in West Midnapore, four in Purulia and three in Bankura - considered a hotbed of Maoist activities.
 
 An over 26 lakh electorate was eligible to choose its representatives from among 97 contestants at 3,534 polling stations that were located in places like Salboni, Jhargram, Nayagram, Binpur, Joypur and Bandwan, which have been the scene for shootings and carnage related to left wing violence in the past couple of years.
 
 The six-phase polls had begun April 18. The votes will be counted May 13.
