Polling begins in Andhra by-polls
Hyderabad, May 8 (IANS) Polling began in Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa district Sunday amid tight security.
Voters started casting their votes at 1,512 polling centres at 8 a.m., the poll officials said. Voting will continue till 5 p.m.
As many as 13,28,869 voters, including 6,80,566 women in Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, are eligible to cast their votes.
Some 11,100 security personnel from state police and central paramilitary forces were deployed at the booths.
A total of 42 candidates are in fray in Kadapa while 25 candidates are testing their fortunes in Pulivendula, one of the seven assembly segments of Kadapa parliamentary constituency.
Election authorities have deployed 7,779 polling personnel for smooth conduct of the polling process.
State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said the polling process was being webcast live.
The by-elections were caused by the resignation of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and his mother Y.S Vijayalaxmi as MP and legislator respectively in November last year.
In Kadapa, Jaganmohan Reddy of YSR Congress party, D.L. Ravindra Reddy of Congress and M.V. Mysoora Reddy of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are the key candidates.
In Pulivendula, Vijyalaxmi is also locked in a triangular contest against her brother-in-law Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy of Congress and B. Tech Ravi of the TDP.
