PMK snaps ties with DMK, will lead own front
Chennai, July 27 (IANS) Tamil Nadu's PMK Wednesday snapped its alliance with the state's major opposition party DMK and decided to form a political front fo its own for the ensuing civic polls.
According to a resolution passed at the General Council meeting chaired by party president G.K. Mani, the Vanniar caste dominated PMK would fight the civic polls and other elections in the future, leading a political front of its own.
The party passed another resolution to form an alternate front in the state and fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu people. It also called upon like minded political parties, human rights activists and others to join its front.
The PMK's parting with the DMK-led front was expected as its senior leaders had blamed the anti-incumbency factor for the DMK's rout in the April assembly elections.
Contesting in 34 constituencies, the PMK won only three. The PMK had sided with the now ruling AIADMK during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.
