New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Wednesday demanded that the prime minister drop Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran from the union cabinet for his alleged involvement in the 2G scam.

 
 "There is no use in expecting Maran to take moral responsibility. It is high time the prime minister drop him from the union cabinet of ministers," Jayalalithaa told reporters here while reacting to  the Central Bureau of Investigation's report to the Supreme Court on the 2G scam in which it has a pointed finger at Maran.
 
 Jayalalithaa said the CBI report was on expected lines and it showed that Maran was involved in the scam.
 
 "The CBI is doing what the nation expected them to do," she said.
 
 Jayalalithaa also said that allegations would be probed of an unauthorised fibre cable network from union Minister Dayanidhi Maran's house in Chennai to the Sun TV office.
 
 "I came to know from media reports that optic fibre cables have been laid in an unauthorised manner from the house of Dayanidhi Maran to Sun TV office in Chennai. Today I am busy with the Planning Commission meeting. As soon as I return to Chennai, I will get this matter thoroughly examined and take necessary action," the AIADMK chief said.
 
 This was the chief minister's second visit to the national capital after her sweeping victory in the Tamil Nadu assembly polls in April.
 
 Jayalalithaa earlier visited New Delhi June 13, meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and asking for special assistance for Tamil Nadu.
 
 In its status report on the 2G scam, the CBI Wednesday pointed finger on Maran, who was telecom minister 2004-07, for sitting on Aircel's application for a spectrum license, as a consequence of which it was sold to Malaysian company Maxis.
 
 There are allegations that Maxis Communication bought 74 percent stake in Aircel and the company was later allotted more circles to operate in.
 
 Maxis Communication, through its subsidiary Astro, then invested around Rs.600 crore in Sun DTH belonging to the Sun TV Network owned by Maran's family, it has been alleged.
 
 The CBI on April 2 filed its first charge sheet in the 2G spectrum scam. The charge sheet was filed in the special court of CBI Judge O.P. Saini.
 
 It named former communications minister Andimuthu Raja, former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Usman Balwa, Raja's aide R.K. Chandolia, Swan Telecom's Vinod Goenka, Unitech's Wireless Sanjay Chandra and three executives of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group -- Gautam Doshi, Hari Nair and Surendra Pipara.
 
 In its April 25 supplementary charge sheet, the CBI named DMK chief M. Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar as co-conspirators after it traced an illegal money trail of Rs.214 crore in the scam.
 
 The supplementary charge sheet also named Karim Morani as well as Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal of Kusegaon Realty.
