Orissa swelters as mercury crosses 41 degrees
Bhubaneswar, April 18 (IANS) Many parts of Orissa sizzled under heat wave conditions, with at least two towns Monday recording maximum temperatures of over 41 degrees Celsius, the weatherman here said.
The district headquarters town of Angul, some 160 km from here, recorded a high of 41.3 degrees, Monday's highest in the state, followed by district headquarters town of Sonepur, some 280 km from here, with 41.2 degrees.
While Titilagarh town in western parts of the state recorded a maximum temperature of 41 degrees, the mercury level at three other towns - Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Hirakud - crossed 40 degrees, an official of the Meteorological Centre here told IANS.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 39.7 degrees.
The heat wave will prevail over some parts of the state during the next 24 hours, the official added.
