Open to probe in 2G scam: Prithviraj Chavan

Mumbai, Sep 28 (IANS) Expressing his willingness to face a probe in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Wednesday took potshots at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday, saying it had opened a dedicated RTI (Right to Information) department.

Before becoming chief minister last year, Chavan was minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

Reacting to the charges levelled against him by BJP in the 2G scam, Chavan said: "I am open to a probe. Work and responsibilities were divided (in the PMO)... anyone can check it out on the website."

"Since the BJP has opened a RTI department, they can ask for papers and files which I had signed," he said, answering queries from the media after the weekly cabinet meeting.

To a query whether he had replied to the recent communication by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, Chavan said he had received two letters till date.

"One pertains to the appointment of Lokayukta (in Maharashtra) and the other relates to certain other issues which we have already discussed earlier. Both letters are being studied and I will reply to them," Chavan said, saying he was in touch with Hazare.
