One held with Rs.10.45 lakh in fake currency
Amritsar, April 16 (IANS) A man was arrested here with Rs.10.45 lakh in fake currency smuggled from Pakistan, police said Saturday adding six China-made pistols and five live cartridges were also recovered from his home.
Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap and nabbed Harbir Singh alias Beera, a resident of Bhindi Saidan village, on Friday.
"Beera does not have any criminal past and we are trying to find his other links in this area. We laid a trap but his associate, Sukhraj Singh, managed to flee," said Assistant Inspector General of Police Manminder Singh in Amritsar, some 250 km from Chandigarh.
"Beera was supposed to supply this consignment to another smuggler in Punjab. The interrogation of another smuggler led to Beera's arrest," he said.
The notes were in denominations of 500.
