Nothing is going to change with Rahul's march: Uma Bharti
Varanasi, July 6 (IANS) Hitting out at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi over his ongoing march against forcible land acquisition in Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti said here Wednesday such protests "will not change the living standards of poor farmers of the state".
"Nothing is going to change for farmers in the wake of the march launched by the Congress scion. It is just a drama aimed to garner support from the farmers ahead of the state assembly elections," Bharti told reporters.
"It would have been better if Rahul Gandhi and his party had taken some concrete steps for the welfare of the farmers. The Congress, which claims to be the custodian of farmers’ rights, has itself formulated several policies against the farmers," she added.
Accusing Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of having a tacit understanding with the Congress, Bharti said: “The two parties merely project working against each other. However, the reality is that the two parties have joined hands to fulfil their political aspirations."
