No way other than fasting: Anna Hazare
New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) After the last meeting of the Lokpal bill drafting committee ended on a sour note Tuesday, Gandhian Anna Hazare said the fast he had announced from August 16 if parliament did not pass the anti-graft legislation by then would go ahead as scheduled.
"There is no other way except the fast to protest against this," Anna Hazare told reporters after the meeting.
The veteran Gandhian's fast April 5-9 led to the formation of the joint committee with five members from civil society and five from government to draft the anti-corruption Lokpal bill.
Hazare has said that he will go on a fast once again from Aug 16 if the government does not formulate a strong Lokpal bill.
"The discussions were not good. They never intended to make the Lokpal legislation, so they were misleading the people," Hazare said.
Asked what will be his next step, the veteran said "movement".
"As we decided earlier, the people will stand up and teach them a lesson," he said.
The final meeting Tuesday ended with both sides failing to overcome their divergent views on six major issues, including on the need to bring the prime minister under the ambit of the proposed ombudsman.
