Bhopal, Sep 18 (IANS) The Madhya Pradesh unit of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) Sunday termed as "unconstitutional" Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's 'sadbhavana' (goodwill) fast in Ahmedabad as he had not sought permission for it from the governor.


Govind Yadav, president of the Madhya Pradesh JD-U, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, appealed to Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal to sack the chief minister.

Modi began his three-day fast Saturday, describing it as a mission to promote harmony in the state which was hit by communal riots in 2002.

Yadav said, in a statement released here, that Modi could not have gone on fast while holding the post of chief minister. He should put in his papers and then continue his fast.

If Modi fails to do so, the Gujarat governor should dismiss him from the post of the chief minister, he added.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan February called off his fast against the central government after the then governor Rameshwar Thakur did not give him permission, Yadav said.
