Minor girl blinded with knife in UP
Lucknow, June 19 (IANS) A minor girl in an Uttar Pradesh village was blinded with a knife by two boys when she resisted their rape attempt, police said Sunday. The girl has been admitted to the Kanpur Medical College.
The 14-year-old Dalit girl was attacked Friday in Gursahaiganj in Kannauj district, about 180 km from here.
The two boys, both high school students, stalked her near a field and assaulted her when she resisted rape. Her screams brought her parents to her rescue, but the boys ran away.
The matter went unreported until it was brought to the notice of district Superintendent of Police Rajendra Singh Saturday night.
The girl's family members told reporters in Gursahaiganj that the police got into action only after they approached the local ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Tahir Hussain Siddiqui and local council chairman Tehsin Siddiqui.
"Two policemen, including a sub-inspector, have been suspended as they failed to register a case against the culprits”, Singh told IANS Sunday over telephone from Kannauj.
