Man who faked his own death arrested
New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) A man who faked his death and then audaciously planned to get a widow's pension for his wife from the government has been arrested in the capital, police said Thursday.
Om Prakash, 48, a resident of Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi, along with his brothers used to poach animals and then sell their skins.
According to police, in 1996, a case of poisoning of animals and skinning them for sale was registered against him and his associates.
"But he cleverly convinced one of his relatives Ashok to impersonate him. Hence, Ashok was arrested and booked," said a police official.
However, Ashok died Jan 23, 2008 and Prakash got him cremated under his name. He then obtained the death certificate from Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in March, the same year.
"After submitting the certificate in the court he was in the process of getting widow's pension for his wife from the Delhi government," added the official.
He was arrested Tuesday near the Raja Garden Metro station in west Delhi, said police.
