Man hires friends to kill sister
New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) Feeling humiliated after his sister eloped with their neighbour, a man paid two of his friends to kill the couple. The woman was shot dead, but the man escaped by locking himself in his home, police said Wednesday. The shooters have been arrested.
Padam Singh, 22, and Bhushan Singh, 20, both residents of Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, were paid Rs.1 lakh each by Dinesh Rawal to kill his sister Geeta and Durgesh Tiwari, who had eloped.
Padam and Bhushan were arrested from south Delhi Tuesday, but Dinesh escaped and is on the run, a police officer said.
According to the police, the two were on their way to kill Durgesh Tiwari in his house in Harsh Vihar area of west Delhi after they failed to eliminate him in their first attempt June 1.
"On June 1, Rawal and his two friends reached Tiwari's house at about 6.15 a.m. and shot dead his mother and father, but Tiwari had locked himself in a room. Upon failing to break open the door, the killers fled," the police officer said.
Geeta, who was with her relatives in Gautam Budh Nagar, too was shot dead when the three returned after a few hours.
According to police, Geeta had eloped with Tiwari in December last year. The couple had run away to Tiwari's native place in Jammu.
The couple returned to Delhi after sometime, and Tiwari was arrested, but later released on bail.
"The girl's family had shifted back to their native village in Uttar Pradesh after the incident. However, when they learnt that the couple were still in touch, the girl's brother and father conspired to kill them," the officer added.
