Man claiming car theft nailed by CCTV
New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) Unable to pay instalments on the car he had bought, a man hid the vehicle in an east Delhi parking lot and alleged it had been stolen. However, CCTV footage nailed his lie and he was arrested, police said Saturday.
Ankit Chaudhary, 23, residing in New Jaffrabad area of east Delhi, alleged that he had stopped at Durga Puri Chowk Tuesday when two men overpowered him and fled with the car, police said.
"The place where the alleged crime was committed was intensively checked and it was found a CCTV was installed in a nearby shop. Its video revealed that three people got down from the car and after a few minutes, two of them drove away with the vehicle," a police official said.
When the footage was shown to Chaudhary, he broke down and told police that he had financial constraints and could only pay one instalment of the car. To avoid losing the vehicle, he hatched the plan along with two associates, said police.
"His associates took the car and hid it in a parking lot in Seelampur in east Delhi. The accused was arrested Friday and the car has been recovered," the official added.
