Man attempts suicide over mouse menace

Ajmer (Rajasthan), July 25 (IANS) A man here tried to immolate himself after being repeatedly bitten by rodents in his house, which thrived due to the alleged negligence of authorities, police said Monday.

Subhash Bhadoria, a lawyer and former secretary of the local bar association, was hospitalised Sunday after being bitten by mice in his house in Chand Bawri area of the old city.

He returned home the same day after being discharged, but as soon he entered his house, the mice attacked him again.

"Bhadoria was hospitalised after his leg was severely bitten by mice. The injuries were so severe that there was a possibility of doctors cutting his leg off. But he recovered and returned home Sunday, when he was bitten again," a police officer told IANS.

"He came out of his house Sunday afternoon holding a can of inflammable substance. He was about to set himself on fire when the neighbours rushed to his rescue and overpowered him," said the officer.

Bhadoria alleged that he had repeatedly appealed to town authorities to clear the area of mice, but the complaints fell on deaf ears.

A huge crowd of local residents gathered outside his home and shouted slogans against authorities.

They alleged that not only Bhadoria, but many of them too had complained to officials about the problem many times recently, but no action was taken.

Jolted into action, teams from the police and local municipal office rushed to Bhadoria's house and assured him of action.

The lawyer threatened that if the problem was not resolved soon, he would immolate himself outside the district collector's office.
