Maharashtra cop caught accepting bribe
Thane, Aug 18 (IANS) A senior police officer in Maharshtra's Thane district was arrested for accepting bribe of Rs.400,000 from a complainant, police said Thursday.
"Following a complaint against Deputy Superintendent of Police Nagnath Sambatwad, the ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) laid a trap," an ACB officer said.
“He was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs.400,000 from the complainant,” he added.
The complainant, a property trader and also a corporator at the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, had Aug 8 registered a complaint at the local police station about the encroachment of land he had purchased.
“When he did not get a positive response from the said police station, he went to Sambatwad who in turn asked for a bribe of Rs.500,000,” the official said.
Sambatwad and the complainant later agreed on the bribe amount of Rs.400,000.
