Jammu, Aug 4 (IANS) Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday killed two top commanders of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Kishtwar district after a day long gunfight, with the police claiming that the group has been completely wiped out from the three hilly districts of Jammu region.


An army spokesman said that an LeT divisional commander and his associate were gunned down in a fierce gunfight in Keshwan area.

"The operation was carried out by 11 Rashtriya Rifles under Counter Insurgency Force Delta, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police," he said.

The terrorist, identified as Habib Gujjar alias Salman, was active since 2008. He was a resident of Kishtwar and was operating in the areas of Saranwa and Keshwan.

The second terrorist has been identified as Irshad Ahmed. He had joined Salman in the first week of July this year.

Describing this as a “big blow to the LeT", Inspector General of Police (Jammu zone) Dilbag Singh told reporters here: “With the killing of these two militants, the LeT group has been wiped out from Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts of Jammu region.”

“I can say that the LeT has been wiped out 100 percent from the hilly ridge. Now, there are only a few Hizbul Mujahadeen militants left in the area,” he added.
