LDF on warpath against Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 5 (IANS) Kerala's Left Democratic Front (LDF) Wednesday stepped up its campaign against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, demanding a judicial probe into how jailed ruling front leader R. Balakrishna Pillai is allegedly running the government though mobile phones.
Speaking to reporters here, LDF convenor Vaikom Viswan said the breakdown of the legal process is being led by none other than Chandy.
"His government has given lot of facilities to Pillai who has been jailed for a year by the apex court over a corruption case. We are all set to approach the apex court in this issue, besides we will organise protests against this high handedness of Chandy in all the 140 assembly constituencies in the state," said Viswan after an emergency meeting of the LDF here.
"Tomorrow (Thursday), we are meeting the Kerala Governor M.O.H. Farook to impress upon the urgency on this issue, on how Chandy is flouting the law of the land and request him to take up this issue,” said Viswan.
For the third successive day Tuesday, the Kerala assembly witnessed ruckus as the Left opposition accused Chandy of flouting rules and speaking to Pillai by phone, which Chandy promptly denied.
Pillai, a leader of UDF constituent Kerala Congress (B), was convicted by the Supreme Court in a corruption case March 2011, and sentenced to an year's imprisonment.
